History of Datatrend Technologies

Datatrend Technologies began providing superior solutions in 1987 through our work as an IBM Series/1 Business Partner distributing BICARSA (Billing, Inventory Control, Accounts Receivable, Sales Analysis, General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Payroll) applications for the inventory control/distribution industry.

Soon after, we initiated a major research and development effort investigating options to port these EDL based applications to a C/AIX environment. Our extensive efforts and experience led to a new major services focus of Series/1 migrations. After being named a preferred Series/1 Migration Vendor by IBM, we continued on to migrate thousands of systems to RS/6000 technology to customers including Ford Motor Company, Prudential Securities, WW Grainger, Meijer Corporation, Marriott International, Giant Food, Wakefern Food Corporation, SGC/Pathmark, and IBM plants. Datatrend later launched with IBM a worldwide joint venture involving our PACTS technology set which solved the Y2K problem for Series/1 EDX/EDL users.

Over time, Datatrend grew its skills sets and its foray into a variety of technology and service arenas. We became proficient in DB2, Oracle, Informix, and other RDBMS products. Providing solutions for Series/1 based CF programs eventually paved the way for Datatrend to become conversant in DAE and, eventually, MQSeries.

A few years later, Datatrend became interested in SP technology and invested heavily in educational courses and research/development involving SP and HACMP design and implementation services. Datatrend also became one of only 10 CLAM service providers based on our HACMP design track record. These experiences further enabled us to become very skilled in many key solution arenas, including server consolidation and high availability.

In the early 2000’s, we forged a slightly new strategic direction to become a more full-fledged solution provider representing a variety of manufacturers and software providers. We have developed practices that leverage many different technology vendors. Examples include VMware, McDATA/Brocade, and Network Appliance.

Datatrend also entered the structured cabling and network solutions business early on in its tenure. Today, we offer a wide array of solutions in the areas of network assessments, network installation/implementation, wireless networks, Cisco network solutions, POS and property management systems implementation, and much more. We are truly an end-to-end infrastructure solutions company – from wire to user.

Another key aspect of our development over time is our commitment to forming strategic alliances with ISV partners in a variety of fields. Our first major alliance was with Check Solutions (now known as Carreker Corporation), an ISV specializing in applications for the banking/financial industry. Together, we created the Check Imaging Repository Solution, earning a 2002 IBM Beacon Award.

More recently, we developed initiatives to partner with data and content management providers to develop a data retention appliance for corporate governance and regulatory compliance. We also develop turnkey infrastructure appliances for “next generation network” software providers. One particular solution, a VoIP platform, earned a 2007 IBM Beacon Award.

Datatrend continues to expand into new technology realms and grow our partnerships to develop a comprehensive suite of solution and service offerings. Today, we represent a multitude of manufacturers and software providers to provide you with a compelling portfolio of best-of-breed solutions.
