Las Vegas, Nevada recently played host to one of the most exciting network cabling conferences that takes place each year.  The 2010 BICSI Fall Conference & Exhibition took place from September 12-16 and brought together more than 3,600 industry leaders and professionals from all over the world.

The conference was a once-a-year opportunity to hear experts speak about everything from network cabling installations to data centers to green technology in an ever-changing technological world.  Below are the 5 speakers and presentations we thought were the most important to attend.  If you were there, we’d love your feedback on what you took home from such an awesome event.

Without further ado, here are our top 5 network cabling sessions we loved at the BICSI Fall Conference:

  1. 40Gbps Over Twisted-Pair Cabling: Planning for a New Ethernet Application – This presentation, hosted by Valerie Maguire of Siemon and Todd Harper of RCDD Nexans, discussed not only the change of the Ethernet paradigm but also the cabling standards development that must take place for the changes to be implemented.  They believe the time is now to start planning for 40Gbps Ethernet.
  2. Power over Ethernet and Fiber Networks is not an Oxymoron – Presented by Ty Estes of Omnitron Systems, this presentation covered the ability of Ethernet to transfer electrical power along with data to remote devices like data centers.  He discussed the ability to use standard 5 UTP cables in an Ethernet network to achieve this.
  3. Leveraging Fiber Network Infrastructure for the Next Generation Network – Another Ty Estes presentation that covered the overview of T1 Multiplexing, applications and uses as well as CWDM Multiplexing and applications.
  4. Layer Zero: A New Perspective on the OSI Model – Presented by Scott McKeon and Greg Hinders of RCDD, this great presentation spoke about how to revolutionize your network from the ground up by creating an information transport system.  Doing so will make a foundation that will completely optimize network performance.
  5. Polarity Management Methods – Presented by David Kozischek of Corning Cable Systems, this presentation discussed the role of proper polarity management in an efficiently operating data center.  The different systems used to manage polarity were covered.

There you have it, the speeches and presentations we found to be extremely helpful and informative.  If you didn’t have the opportunity to attend this year, we strongly encourage you to do so in 2011.  In the meantime feel free to go to each link and browse the presentations you missed.
