In today's business environment, data retention is an invaluable resource for every organization, not only for their own business needs but also to meet compliance regulations given from various industry and government officiating bodies. This issue of TrendSetter concentrates on this topic and resolving the data retention problem seamlessly. In our expert article, Alan Stuart examines the Lifecycle of Information and the value of managing that data. Through his examination, he shows the value of IBM's data retention solution. Likewise, Arminda Jurgenson and Ricardo Haragutchi take in-depth looks into the software bundle and the technical side of the IBM DR550, respectively. The Industry Trends article also offers a look into a similar bundled data retention solution and the success found from one of its first clients. Also, Darren Waldrep offers a perspective on the benefits of implementing a data retention solution devised through a close value added partnership. Similarly, Mark Waldrep describes success from his clients as they use the Datatrend Solution Center to examine and validate their solutions prior to deployment.
In 1970, a committee of scientists - including Harry
White, a young data-elements code processor at the Pentagon -
recruited 86 technical societies to appeal for an official American
"Year of the Computer" proclamation, intended as a platform to sell
the four-digit year and avoid a future Y2K fiasco.
"I could see many
applications by necessity needed a four-digit year - personnel,
medical records, retirement..." White later explained. "When you do
those with two digits, it will cause considerable problems."
Alas, the
idea was scuppered by president Richard Nixon - and the committee's
lead organizer never learned why.
