The Challenge

A nationwide franchisor and operator of fitness centers was preparing to drive future customer engagements through advancing its IoT programs, enabling member interaction, and improving the overall customer experience.

There was concern that the infrastructure at its 1,420+ existing franchise locations may not meet new network standards, nor be able to support future technologies that drive customer experience programs.  They had little quantifiable security and compliance information.  Corporate leadership recognized the potential vulnerabilities within the environment and needed a solution.

The fitness organization needed to assess infrastructure environments and remediate each site not conforming to corporate standards. This initiative required a partner with the depth and breadth of knowledge, technical and project management skills, and geographic coverage for this wide-scale project.

The Solution

The fitness club organization engaged Datatrend to conduct site assessments on 1,424 gym locations to baseline each club against corporate standards. Datatrend developed a solution engaging 180 different vendors from our nationwide network of installation technicians, many of whom were used for site assessments, along with automated quoting tools to scale and meet Planet Fitness quality and timeline requirements. Additionally, technicians utilized a tool to provide information, photos, speed test results, and DHCP tests from the site, giving real-time feedback to the customer.

The franchisor also engaged Datatrend to conduct a comprehensive security and compliance assessment.  This assessment included penetration testing of their environment, as well as a combination PCI (Payment Card Industry) assessment, comprised of a strategic assessment and a QSA (Qualified Security Assessor) onsite assessment.

Lastly, Datatrend constructed seven (7) different remediation profiles, amended current standards, and updated site to standards.

The Result

Security consulting services positioned Datatrend as a strategic partner for the fitness club organization as they looked to Datatrend for solutions for ongoing IT/business issues. Datatrend earned the trust of their IT team to continue to provide delivery services and solutions.

The Challenge

The airline suffered a significant outage, causing a global shutdown and nine-figure financial loss.  The root cause of the outage was the failure of data center power equipment past its useful life.  Their Disaster Recovery (DR) plan was found to be inadequate, with no ability to operate in case of data center failure.  The airline’s Board of Directors mandated the stand-up of a new data center within nine months.

The Solution

Datatrend offered a business outcomes-based contract with fees at risk and aggressive timeframes to move critical applications.  Datatrend conducted a physical inventory, executed a logical discovery, designed future state architecture, and provided implementation & migration services.  We deployed 99 racks of converged infrastructure serving 5 petabytes of storage, 3,000 virtual machines, and an Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)-based leaf-spine network architecture.

The Result

Within 30 days a new data center strategy consolidating five sites to two physical sites, plus cloud for selected workloads was defined. Within 90 days, a new colocation site was selected to provide a recoverable position. Datatrend architected a software-defined converged infrastructure, completed critical application discovery, and delivered the core solution within the 90-day timeframe. In parallel, application recovery plans were developed, legacy systems including IBM mainframe and UNIX were deployed, and a full automation capability was implemented. Application level failover testing commenced less than six months after project start date, proving the airline could recover within hours from a catastrophic data center failure.

The Challenge

This regional healthcare provider was challenged with server sprawl, severe power limitations, and the high resource expense of maintaining a congested data center. HealthEast’s care system relied on a large, complex computing environment to manage a broad spectrum of business and clinical functions. As new applications continued to be deployed, server sprawl hit 300. IT leadership realized the data center had reached its server threshold for capacity, power, and IT support time required.

The Solution

Datatrend completed a major server virtualization and consolidation initiative collaboratively with the HealthEast IT team. We replaced 184 small servers with five (5) high capacity servers - instead of one application per server, dozens of applications can now run on a single server. The consolidation ratio for virtualized servers increased to 37:1 (previously running at 10:1).

The Result

These major server initiatives were completed in five months. HealthEast realized a 40% reduction in data center power consumption with a 14-month project investment recovery timeframe. The solution decreased utilization of data center space, mitigated future expansion needs, improved application performance, strengthened business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities,and reduced IT staff time required for managing servers. The on-time completion allowed for faster more efficient access, boosting revenue and customer satisfaction.

The Challenge

A telco ISV needed engineering and deployment for an international mobile carrier facing growing network capacity constraints due to market surge in mobile video streaming. Capacity constraints were threatening service levels to existing customers and limiting new customer acquisition. The carrier required a solution to free up in-network capacity across 35 data center sites across the U.S. An ISV offered a fitting video optimization software solution to the carrier, however needed to deploy at scale on new server and storage infrastructure to roll out across the 35 sites, requiring DC power.

The Solution

Datatrend designed a complete rack infrastructure with server, storage, network, load balancers, and power. We pre-staged over 32 sites of servers and storage, accomplished by building a customized private network to simulate six different sites at a time in parallel for the ISV to remotely access. Additionally, Datatrend staged over 1,000 server and storage units in preparation for site delivery and deployment, as well as conducted compression for video over IP and deployed to 32 sites in four months.

The Result

The solution created abundant capacity to service and acquired mobile customers with robust mobile video services. This project was delivered on schedule and Datatrend surpassed all set goals for the deployment. The carrier noted the solution was “the best deployment by any vendor in our history”.

The Challenge

With antiquated end-of-life servers, a city in Georgia needed to update and virtualize their data center environment for more flexibility in provisioning workloads. Past IT vendors were unable to collaborate on goals, requirements, delivery, and support. The city was spending weekends conducting on-site maintenance and needed a simplified management process including server updates.

The Solution

A Datatrend data center architect performed multiple services to manage current and future workload demands of the new data center. Datatrend conducted discovery around initiatives/workloads, data use and growth, and system requirements. Additionally, we developed a roadmap and configured IT stack for current and future workloads, as well as provided guidance for managing the virtualized data center environment and installing and configuring a VMware vCenter. Datatrend worked closely with the city’s IT team managing Physical to Virtual (P2V) migration and system management training.

The Result

The city moved from paper and outdated technology to a high-capacity digital and virtualized environment as a result of Datatrend’s proactive and immediate response. They now have the capacity and performance to meet current and future workloads. The burden was removed from the city’s IT team via Datatrend’s remote provisioning and simplified management of the virtualized environment. Both the city and county now share a state-of-the-art emergency response system enabling dispatch to police, fire, and EMS. Additionally, an auto-dialing phone and text notification system for direct-to-citizen emergency communications has been implemented!
